F. Scott Fitzgerald published Tender Is the Night in 1934, several years after The Great Gatsby. The story follows Dick Diver, a charismatic psychiatrist, and his wealthy wife Nicole, tracing the slow unravelling of their marriage against the backdrop of the French Riviera. Fitzgerald drew heavily on his own troubled relationship with Zelda Fitzgerald, and the book's structure was unusual for its time, moving backwards and forwards through the couple's history.
The Equator passes through thirteen countries, and Colombia is one of them, along with Ecuador, Brazil and Kenya. Near Quito, the Ecuadorian capital, a monument marks the line where visitors can stand with one foot in each hemisphere. Because the Equator receives direct sunlight year-round, regions along it tend to be warm and humid, which helps explain the dense rainforests found in several of the countries it crosses.
The Strait of Gibraltar separates Spain from Morocco and links the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea. At its narrowest point the gap is only about 13 kilometres wide, yet it carries enormous volumes of water and shipping traffic. The name comes from the Rock of Gibraltar, and in ancient times the strait was known as one of the Pillars of Hercules, marking the edge of the known world for Mediterranean sailors.
Calibri, Arial and Courier are all typefaces, but they belong to different traditions. Courier was designed as a monospaced typewriter font, meaning every character takes up the same width, which is why it still appears in screenplays and manuscripts. Arial is a clean sans-serif face, while Calibri, a softer sans-serif, became familiar to millions as the default font in Microsoft Office programs.
