Kimchi is often pictured as one thing, but Korean households make hundreds of varieties. The best known is baechu kimchi, built around napa cabbage, which is salted first to draw out water before being packed with a chili paste. Radish, cucumber and even green onion versions are common too, and the making of large batches, called kimjang, is recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
Copper's symbol comes from cuprum, the Latin name for the metal, which also gave English the word "cuprous". That is why Cu does not match the English word at all, while calcium (Ca) and chlorine (Cl) follow their own names more closely. Several other elements betray the same Latin habit: iron is Fe from ferrum, and lead is Pb from plumbum.
Mexico has the largest number of Spanish speakers of any country, far ahead of Spain itself and Colombia. That reflects both population size and the language's long history across the Americas, where it arrived with colonisation and then developed its own regional accents and vocabulary. Spanish is also an official language in Equatorial Guinea, the only such country in Africa.
Switzerland has no formal capital in its constitution, though Bern is the de facto seat of government, which is why Geneva can feel like a capital without being one. It is nonetheless a global hub, hosting the European headquarters of the United Nations and the World Health Organization. Dhaka and Dublin, by contrast, are the actual capitals of Bangladesh and Ireland.
Elvis Presley became the face of rock 'n' roll in the 1950s, blending country, blues and rhythm and blues into something louder and more restless than the pop of the day. His early recordings for Sun Records and later hits for RCA turned him into a cultural phenomenon. He also spent years making films and, later, performing in Las Vegas, but rock 'n' roll remains the genre he is most tied to.
