Bratislava sits on the Danube, close to both the Austrian and Hungarian borders, which makes it one of the few capitals within easy reach of two other countries. It became the capital of an independent Slovakia in 1993, after Czechoslovakia split into two states. Before that, it was known for centuries by its German name, Pressburg, and it even served as the coronation city for Hungarian kings.
A.A. Milne wrote the Winnie-the-Pooh stories after his son, Christopher Robin, was given a teddy bear. The bear was originally named Edward, but the name changed to Winnie after a real Canadian black bear at London Zoo that the boy liked to visit. The books grew out of bedtime stories, and the Hundred Acre Wood was based on Ashdown Forest, near the family's home in southern England.
The United Kingdom kept the pound sterling while many of its European neighbours adopted the euro. The pound is one of the oldest currencies still in use, and its name comes from the weight of silver that once backed it. Coins and notes are issued by the Bank of England and by banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland, which is why you can find several different designs in circulation.
"You know nothing, Jon Snow" is spoken by Ygritte, a wildling in Game of Thrones, and became one of the show's most quoted lines. In the books by George R.R. Martin, she says it more than once, and it works as both a taunt and a warning. The phrase spread far beyond the series, turning up on T-shirts and in everyday jokes about people who are missing the obvious.
Oxygen is the most abundant element in the Earth's crust, but not in its pure gaseous form. It is locked into minerals and rocks, especially silicates, which make up most of the crust. Quartz, feldspar and clay all contain oxygen, so by weight it accounts for roughly half of the solid ground beneath us.
