Ravioli belong to the broader family of stuffed pasta, a tradition that stretches across Italy: tortellini in Emilia-Romagna, agnolotti in Piedmont, casoncelli in Lombardy. What they share is a simple idea - a filling sealed inside a thin sheet of dough, usually served with a light sauce or broth so the filling stays the star. Penne and farfalle, by contrast, are shaped pasta with no filling at all.
Hemoglobin is the protein that gives red blood cells their colour and carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body. Each hemoglobin molecule holds four iron-containing units called heme groups, and each of those can bind one oxygen molecule - which is why a single hemoglobin can ferry four oxygen molecules at once. Myoglobin, a close relative, stores oxygen in muscle tissue instead.
After his defeat at Waterloo in 1815, Napoleon was exiled to St. Helena, a remote island in the South Atlantic, roughly 1,900 kilometres from the African coast. He died there in 1821. It was his second exile: he had previously been sent to Elba, in the Mediterranean, from which he escaped to return to France for the Hundred Days.
Ankara has been the capital of Turkey since 1923, when the newly founded republic moved its seat of government there from Istanbul. Istanbul remains the country's largest city and its economic and cultural hub, while Ankara is the political centre - a split that is common around the world, from Canberra and Ottawa to Brasília.
The quickstep is a ballroom dance that developed in England and is danced in international standard competitions; the paso doble, despite its Spanish bullfight associations, also belongs to that competitive ballroom repertoire. The rumba, by contrast, has its roots in Cuba. Latin American dance is a broad label, and not every dance with a Spanish name fits neatly inside it.
