Molière's Tartuffe caused outrage when it was first performed in the 1660s. The play mocks religious hypocrisy through the character of Tartuffe, a fraud who poses as a pious man while scheming to take over a wealthy family's household. Church authorities were offended enough that performances were banned for a time, and Molière had to fight to get the play back on stage. It later became one of the cornerstones of French comic theatre.
Ulaanbaatar is one of the coldest capital cities in the world, with winter temperatures that regularly drop far below freezing. It sits in a valley on the Tuul River and is home to roughly half of Mongolia's entire population. The city's name means "red hero" in Mongolian, a reference to the revolutionary leader Sukhbaatar.
Vienna grew up on the Danube, which flows through ten countries and has long served as a major trade route across Central Europe. Emily Brontë wrote just one novel, Wuthering Heights, published in 1847 under the pen name Ellis Bell. She died the following year at the age of 30, so she never saw the book become the classic it is today. Her sister Charlotte, who wrote Jane Eyre, outlived her and later edited Wuthering Heights for a second edition.
