Spinosaurus has long been a favourite in debates about the biggest carnivorous dinosaur, thanks to its long, crocodile-like skull and a striking sail along its back. Its fossils were first described in the early twentieth century from Egyptian material, much of which was later destroyed in wartime. Modern finds have suggested it was well suited to life around water, hunting fish as well as other prey. Tyrannosaurus Rex, by contrast, lived millions of years later and on a different continent.
Digestion turns the food we eat into molecules small enough to be absorbed into the bloodstream. It begins in the mouth, where chewing and enzymes start breaking food down, and continues through the stomach and the long coils of the small intestine. The pancreas and liver contribute enzymes and bile that help process fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Respiration is a separate process, concerned with breathing and the release of energy inside cells.
Antigua and Barbuda is a small country in the eastern Caribbean, and its capital, St. John's, sits on the island of Antigua. The nation's name reflects its two main inhabited islands, with a number of smaller ones also included. The Philippines, by contrast, is an archipelago of more than seven thousand islands in Southeast Asia, with Manila as its capital on the island of Luzon. Both countries share a history of Spanish and later American or British influence in different forms.
Shere Khan, the lame tiger who terrorises the jungle, is one of the most memorable characters in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, published in 1894. The name comes from Persian and Urdu words meaning roughly "king" or "lord" and "tiger". Kipling's stories, set in an Indian jungle, also gave the world Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera, and they have been adapted for film and television many times over.
