Beyond the answers - interesting background to this quiz

The chemical shorthand of cadmium

Cadmium carries the symbol Cd, which is easy to confuse with calcium (Ca) or cerium (Ce). The element is a soft, bluish-white metal often used in rechargeable batteries, pigments, and as a protective coating on steel. Because its compounds can be toxic, many industries have worked to reduce or replace cadmium in consumer products over recent decades.

Why Wales is called a principality

Wales is often described as a principality, a term linked to its historical association with the Prince of Wales. The title has been held by the heir apparent to the English and later British throne since the early fourteenth century. Although Wales has its own parliament and distinct cultural identity, the word principality persists in common usage even though the country is not constitutionally defined that way today.

Belmopan, the young capital of Belize

Belize moved its capital from coastal Belize City to Belmopan in 1970. The decision followed severe damage from Hurricane Hattie in 1961, which highlighted the vulnerability of the low-lying former capital. Belmopan was purpose-built inland and remains one of the smallest capital cities in the Americas by population.

Tarock, a card game with many faces

Tarock, also spelled tarot in some traditions, is not just a set of cards used for fortune-telling. It is a family of trick-taking card games played in parts of Europe, especially Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, and France. The games use a specialised deck with a fifth suit of trumps and have a long history dating back to at least the fifteenth century.
