Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, and it has kept its own currency rather than adopting the euro. The Swiss franc is also used in neighbouring Liechtenstein, which shares a monetary union with Switzerland. The currency's reputation for stability has long made it a safe haven in turbulent financial times, which is one reason it appears so often in conversations about global money.
The symbol Au for gold comes from the Latin word aurum, meaning "shining dawn". Many element symbols follow the same pattern: they are derived from Latin names rather than the English ones we use today. That is why iron is Fe, from ferrum, and silver is Ag, from argentum. The system was introduced by the Swedish chemist Jons Jacob Berzelius in the early nineteenth century and is still used worldwide.
South Africa has three capital cities: Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein, each hosting different branches of government. Johannesburg, however, is the largest city by population. Pride and Prejudice was published in 1813, and its author, Jane Austen, released it anonymously - the title page simply stated it was written "By a Lady". The novel's sharp observations of marriage, class and money in Georgian England have kept it in print for more than two centuries. It regularly appears near the top of lists of the most beloved English novels.
Daniel Craig first played James Bond in Casino Royale in 2006, bringing a grittier, more physical interpretation to the role than many of his predecessors. Quantum of Solace followed in 2008 as a direct sequel, the first time a Bond film continued the previous film's storyline. Craig went on to play the character in five films in total, ending with No Time to Die.
