Malta adopted the euro in January 2008, replacing the Maltese lira, which had itself replaced the Maltese pound. The country joined the European Union in 2004, and the euro became legal tender after Malta met the convergence criteria, including low inflation and stable public finances. Today, Maltese euro coins feature the Maltese cross, the coat of arms, and the Mnajdra temple altar.
Riga, Latvia's capital, is often cited as having one of the finest concentrations of Art Nouveau architecture in Europe. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the city has long served as the largest urban centre in the Baltic states.

Its waters have been a source of tension and cooperation for decades, given how many communities depend on them in an arid region.
"Tender Is the Night" features Dick and Nicole Diver, a glamorous American couple living on the French Riviera in the 1920s. Fitzgerald drew heavily on his own experiences in Europe and his wife Zelda's mental health struggles. The novel took him nearly a decade to complete and was published in 1934, after "The Great Gatsby" had already established his reputation.
