Einsteinium, symbol Es, was first identified in 1952 in the fallout from a hydrogen bomb test in the Pacific. It was named in honour of Albert Einstein, who had died in 1955. Like all elements beyond uranium, it does not occur naturally in any meaningful quantity and must be produced in laboratories or nuclear reactors. It is highly radioactive and only tiny amounts have ever existed at once.
The Széchenyi Chain Bridge in Budapest was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Hungary, opening in 1849. It was largely the work of Count István Széchenyi, a reformer who pushed for the project, and the Scottish engineer Adam Clark oversaw its construction. Its name comes from the iron chains that support the roadway. The bridge was destroyed in the Second World War and rebuilt, reopening in 1949.
Yalta sits on the Black Sea coast, on the southern edge of the Crimean Peninsula. It is best known outside the region as the site of the 1945 Yalta Conference, where Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin met to discuss the shape of post-war Europe. The resort town had long been a favourite of Russian royalty and later Soviet leaders, thanks to its mild climate and sheltered bay.
Spain shares the Iberian Peninsula with Portugal, which occupies most of the peninsula's western coast. France borders Spain along the Pyrenees, the mountain range that forms a natural frontier between the two countries. Spain also touches Andorra and the British territory of Gibraltar. Its position between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean has shaped centuries of trade, conflict and culture.
